Sometimes, I have to print envelopes in-house, and I want them to match the invites (not printed in-house). Use TPP to find the CMYK code that makes your in-house printer print the same as your print shop. Color match envelope printing. Even the same print shop can handle envelopes and paper differently. Light gray can be accomplished using 10-30% black, medium grays can be achieved from 40-60% black and dark grays between 70-85% black. Creating gray using all four colors (CMYK) opens the door to color variation with warm, cool or brownish gray tones.

However, I can't seem to find the "right" values and I'm confused with all the terminology that's out there. For example, the common 50c40my neutral midtone grey balance values often used in offset printing can be made with a higher GCR: 31c24my29k 5cmy52k 15c13my44k All of these three different sets of GCR values have the same L*a*b* value of 61L 0a 0b as the original CMYK mix that contained no black. Standard Color Separations vs. Achromatic Color [Gray Component Removal (GCR)] The standard color separation halftone printing process is based on the combined effects of additive and subtractive color-mixing principles.

The other three options (CMYK, Gray and Spot) have to do with commercial printing. For our purposes here, and unless you're working with a commercial printer, you can leave all three options set to their defaults. That printer uses 6 tanks - CMYK+G and pigment black.

At first i thought i can just use the same method as for RGB -> grayscale conversion, like (R + G + B) / 3 or max(r, g, b) / 2 + min(r, g, b). But unfortunately this works bad for CMYK, because CMY and K are redundant.

But since CMYK is used for prints, its process of creating colors is a bit different. Theoretically, a combination of cyan, magenta, and yellow create black — just like a combination of RGB creates white. But, to save all that ink, it’s much better to use key (black), instead. I would like to know whether someone has ever tried to print the same black and white image on a CMYK printer and on a CMYK + Grey ink to compare the results Click to expand For starters, CYMK printers are useless (Flawed) at producing quality B&W or Colour photos, so therefore adding in an extra grey colour can only enhance the photo a little more, but you still won’t get a decent print The printer described has a gray level resolution of 256, but only 4 gray levels.
